Bay Area Quiz Kids
TV show
Quiz Kids is a fun, academic, single-round elimination quiz tournament
for local high schools produced by Peninsula Television channel 26. Forty-eight
Bay Area high schools will compete for the grand prize, an all-expenses
paid 9-day trip to Europe. Brad Friedman, the Dramatic Arts teacher at San Mateo
High School, hosts the show with style, panache, and wit. The show
airs Saturdays at noon on KRON channel 4 and also on selected cable TV
channels. In Menlo Park, East Palo Alto and Atherton, Quiz Kids airs on
cable TV channel 26 Fridays at 8 PM and Sundays at 7 PM.
How
the Game is Played
Students are asked questions from eight categories. In the
Collaboration Round, the whole team gets together to figure out the answers. In
the Lightning Round, contestants need speed to buzz in with the correct
answer. The final Extreme Lightning Round is similar, but the points are
doubled. The categories are: Geography, History, Literature,
Math, The News, Science & Technology, and Sports.
Grand Prize
M-A has won the championship and grand prize for four years in a row. The 2003
team chose a trip to Costa Rica.

television show is made. After the show, the crew usually
gives tours of the sound booth where they do the mixing and editing.
All members of the public are
welcome, but most young children would not enjoy it since they have to sit
quietly for an hour and applaud a lot. Tapings are held in the Peninsula
TV studio located in San Carlos. Sam Trans
building, 1250 San Carlos Ave two blocks west of El Camino, second floor.
